Maybe you like it as a dip. Maybe you’re crazy for it on sandwiches or deviled eggs. However you like your guacamole, you can find it all across North America with various local flavors that speak to it as a mainstay of Mexican cuisine. Here are just a few places to stop when you’re looking for some cheap flights in September and then craving some guac during your travels!

Bar Amá (Los Angeles)

With a distinctly cantina-like feel, Bar Amá is a hip and trendy spot in L.A. that’s still casual enough to make a great date night. It specializes in Tex-Mex cuisine that ranges from tacos and enchiladas to famously supersized portions of queso and chips. Nicos (Mexico City)

With roving mezcal carts and certain dishes prepared right at your table, Restaurante Nicos is just as cool and colorful as Mexico City itself. It has a slightly formal air that lends itself well to a menu dotted with historical references and food served in traditional wooden bowls. The menu is second only to the overall ambience of a true Mexicana establishment! The fresh guacamole dip will be a nice appetizer. Before you leave, you can also treat yourself to enchiladas, fish filets, pork belly tacos, stuffed poblano peppers, octopus dishes in black ink, and more.

El Catrin Destileria (Toronto)

Toronto might not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of guacamole, but El Catrin Destileria will change your mind. Its basic guac recipe includes avocados, onions, tomatoes, cilantro and serrano chili peppers. You can also add your choice of chicharrón…or cooked crickets! Other menu categories range from especialidades (house specials) to antojitos (street snacks), so you’re sure to have a blast at El Catrin Destileria. Its central fireplace will make you feel like you’re at a siesta, and even its walls are painted with fun, festive images like sugar skulls wearing hats. By the time that you get to the guacamole-dipped crickets, you definitely won’t feel like you’re in Canada anymore.

Hacienda Sisal (Cancun)

The only thing better than traveling to Cancun is experiencing some homegrown Mexican cuisine while you’re there, and Hacienda Sisal is one of the best places in the city to enjoy lunch, brunch, and dinner. You can wake up all five of your senses with savory soups, slow-cooked meats, and delectable salsas spooned over eggs and tortillas. As with the other establishments on this list, however, the guacamole is a standout dish. You can order it fresco-style or with the addition of beef jerky for a little extra protein. As a bonus, since everything at Hacienda Sisal is made fresh, it’ll taste like the avocados were just plucked from the tree!

La Condesa (Austin, Texas)

Working with local farmers and ranchers to provide fresh, regionally-sourced ingredients, La Condesa is an ethical choice in dining. It’s also very authentic, boasting a décor with everything from Mexican art prints to a gigantic and colorful central mural. You won’t be disappointed in lunch, either. From its huevos rancheros to its quesadilla de short rib, you’re in for a tasty plate at La Condesa. Start off with the pico de gallo guacamole and go exploring down the menu from there!
