No matter where your destination may be, it’s not always easy to travel if you have to keep special considerations in mind. Fortunately, many carriers provide helpful resources for passengers who may require mobility aids, wheelchairs, medical equipment, extra assistance, and more. If you’re thinking of flying Frontier Airlines and are concerned about accessing these services, we hope this post will put your mind at ease.

Traveling with Wheelchairs and Mobility Aids

If you need to request a wheelchair for the airport and/or during your flight, you can make this request immediately when you make your Frontier Airlines reservations. Be sure to arrive at least two hours early to the airport and alert a staff member when you arrive that you are waiting for your requested wheelchair.

You can also bring your own wheelchair on your trip. Frontier Airlines flights allow you to check these items with the rest of the cargo. They are not counted as part of your baggage allowance, nor do you have to pay extra to check this equipment. You can also stow this equipment in the passenger cabin; space for this purpose is determined on a first-come, first-served basis, so be sure to alert ticket counter service representatives as soon as you get to the airport. If stored in the cabin, a wheelchair must not weigh more than 70 pounds or exceed the dimensions of 40 inches in height, 50 inches in length, and 13 inches in width when folded or collapsed.

For those who require other mobility aids like crutches, canes, and walkers, you will be given priority onboard storage for this purpose. These items will not count toward your allotted carry-on baggage or come with an additional fee.

Bringing Medicines and/or Medical Devices On Board

Medications should always be kept in your carry-on bag (or small personal item) rather than in your checked luggage. Medical devices can be kept in either your carry-on or in your checked luggage but must always adhere to all weight and dimension restrictions. The official TSA website has a complete list of medications and devices allowed in-flight.

Compressed or liquefied medical oxygen cylinders are not allowed onboard any flight, and they can’t be transported in checked baggage either. There are many kinds of portable oxygen concentrators and respiratory devices that are allowed on flights by the FAA.

Traveling with Service or Emotional Support Animals

If you’re flying Frontier Airlines with a service animal, don’t sweat it: your service animal will be welcomed aboard as long as you have your animal identification card and the animal wears a harness/vest that clearly shows its service animal status. Also, be prepared to provide details about the services your animal provides and the training it has received. Service animals must be harnessed (i.e., using a collar and leash or a guide dog harness) during the total length of the flight. Your service animal may sit in your lap if it’s small enough to do so while being contained to your one seat; otherwise, it may remain at your feet as long as it doesn’t sit in the aisle.

Therapy and/or emotional support animals are typically allowed on Frontier flights as well, permitting the owner can provide a current written statement from a mental health professional that includes information pertaining to the professional’s license, the owner’s mental or emotional disorder, and that the animal is necessary for the owner’s mental health while traveling. Your emotional support animal must fit under the seat or on your lap and must remain under your control for the entire flight.

When traveling with service animals or emotional support animals of any kind, Frontier retains the right to assess the animal’s behavior at the airport to ensure the safety of all passengers during flight. Frontier may refuse to accommodate any animal if the owner cannot provide proof of service or training or if the animal has been shown to be disruptive or aggressive in any way.
