It’s almost the end of summer, and while we’re all a bit sad to see the sunny days get shorter and the sleeves of our clothes getting longer, we know that the fall is just the start of some of the best — and cheapest — times to visit some special destinations around the world. So start browsing some flights and making plans, because we’ve got six of the best places you can visit during the next few months!

Mexico City

Great weather and affordable prices mean a fun time can be had this fall, just a short drive/flight south of the border. Plus, the fall months usher in the pageantry and patriotic parties around Mexico’s Independence Day on September 16, the colorful and morbid celebrations on the Day of the Dead on November 1 and 2, and the markets and folk music of Revolution Day on November 20.

Iceland

The heavy tourist seasons of summer finally gives way to the quieter, slightly cooler, fall months in Iceland. Accommodations are much cheaper as soon as September hits, plus you can catch the Northern Lights, drive around the Ring Road, and take in all the sites of the Golden Circle (including Thingvellir National Park, the beautiful Gullfoss waterfall, and the famous Geysir geyser).

San Francisco

You can bike across the Golden Gate Bridge, take in the taste of Chinatown, enjoy a cruise on the Bay, go on a day tour of the wine country, and hop on a cable car — all without bumping elbows with too many tourists during the wonderful fall months in San Francisco.

Ecuador

Take advantage of the off-peak season to visit this South American gem. Enjoy great authentic food and drink in the quaint city of Quito, soak up the sun and some great surf in the coastal hippie town of Montanita, and see the penguins and sea lions on the famous Galapagos Islands.

Boston

Cobblestone street in Boston. Historic Acorn Street in Beacon Hill, called the most picturesque street in America, with a row of vintage red brick buildings.

With all that great history, boisterous Irish pubs, and charming cobblestone neighborhoods, Boston is the perfect place to enjoy the crisp fall air. It won’t cost you much to lounge by the scenic Charles River, walk through the lush Boston Commons, enjoy some great food and buy some knick-knacks at Faneuil Hall, and even take the kids to the New England Aquarium.

Punta Cana

The Dominican Republic is just in the US backyard, which is all the more reason to hop over to Punta Cana for some all-inclusive pampering at a great resort. Great people, great beaches, and guaranteed awesome nightlife make it an ideal place for a quick weekend getaway in the Caribbean this fall.

Want to make the most of the fall? Why not plan your trip today?
