We love our U.S. National Parks (thanks, Teddy)! Conservation efforts began when naturalist and author John Muir put into words the as yet untold splendor of America’s natural resources. Indeed, the grandeur of Yosemite kicked off the push for conservation when it was placed under the protection of California by President Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War. Thus began efforts to protect America’s natural beauty, finally culminating in the creation of our U.S. National Parks network in 1916.
