As if you needed another excuse to travel to one of the coolest places in the world, Iceland was just named the safest destination in the world! Not only is Iceland the world’s most peaceful country, but it’s also home to breathtaking views, stunning glaciers, fascinating history, and beautiful hidden towns.

Check out our list of the top spots to visit in Iceland!

Reykjavik (rake-ya-vick)

A trip to Iceland would be incomplete without a visit to Reykjavik, Iceland’s capital and largest city. For all the party animals out there, a trip in the summer might be just for you! Because the sun doesn’t set throughout the entire season, Reykjavik’s epic nightlife stretches into the early hours of the morning! For the more mellow folks, not to worry. Located right on the coastline, Reykjavik is filled with incredible landscapes and vibrant culture. Make sure to check out the Hallgrímskirkja (Hall-grins-Kirk-ya; a modern cathedral), Geysir (the original geyser after which all others are named), the spectacular waterfalls at Gullfoss, and the stunning Blue Lagoon.

Húsavík (HOO-sa-vik)

The site of Iceland’s first settlement, Húsavík is filled with rich Viking history. This isn’t its only claim to fame. Húsavík is also an awesome spot for whale watching. Experiencing the Húsavík Whale Museum after seeing the real thing totally enhances the experience! For nature lovers, this city also provides the perfect opportunity to explore a bunch of excellent hiking trails all year round (yes, even in the snowy Iceland winter!).

 Seyðisfjörður (Say-dis-four-door)

Seyðisfjörður is the perfect slice of paradise. The contrast of its multicolored wooded houses, cascading waterfalls, and snowcapped mountains is truly extraordinary. Filled with a small community of artists and musicians (there’s less than 700 residents in the whole town), its LungA art festival brings together top musicians and fashion designers for workshops and exhibitions in mid-July.
