Forget Drive-in Movie Theaters – Visit St. Lucia’s Drive-in Volcano!

St. Lucia is home to the Caribbean’s only drive-in volcano at Sulphur Springs Park. The La Soufriére Drive-In Volcano invites travelers to drive within a few hundred feet of its active crater. Reeking of sulfur, the park showcases the bubbling, boiling heart of the island. In addition to the drive up to the volcano, the park also offers full-body mud baths, which are known for their health benefits. Sulphur Springs Park remains the hottest and most active geothermal area in the Lesser Antilles.

Thrill seekers can also ride a Jetovator, essentially a jet ski that propels you up in the air. A St. Lucia company allows you to glide over the island’s blue waters with the help of a water sports accessory that takes a jet ski and redirects the water thrust along a 40-foot hose. After you are done levitating over the waters, you can swing like Tarzan on the Adrena-Line Canopy Tour from Rainforest Adventures. The tour allows you to zip from platform to platform in a high tree canopy and even swing down to a net if you dare, á la Tarzan.

History buffs will delight among the ruins of Pigeon Island National Park’s 18th century military fortifications, from the time the French and British fought for control of the island. Located in St. Lucia’s northwest, Pigeon Island isn’t just about history. Connected to the mainland via a man-made causeway, the island also boasts two beaches with calm waters and a lookout point at the top of the fort with panoramic views of the coastline.

At first glance, you might not consider St. Lucia to be a music hotspot. However, the island nation is home to the St. Lucia Jazz and Arts Festival, which is considered one of the best in the Caribbean and in the world. Aside from a full line-up of Caribbean musicians, international artists also make it down for the festival that’s spread out over a week and across 15 venues. What makes the festival particularly unique is the fact that it isn’t just about music. Visitors can join in on Carnival-style street parties or experience fashion and art events throughout the island.

No matter how you spin it, St. Lucia isn’t just a honeymoon haven, but rather an island fraught with adventure and unique experiences too.
