What better day than Friends Day to think about taking a special trip with some of your buds? Whether you want to paint the town red for the weekend, or go on that epic Euro backpacking journey you’ve been planning for ages, traveling with friends is always a good idea.

Group trips make for great stories and deeper bonds with the pals you love. Plus, let’s be real—it often doesn’t matter where you are, just as long as you’re in good company.

1.) Spring Break in Cancun

A trip down to Cancun for spring break is a friendship rite of passage. Nearly 3 million people visit every year, and it’s no wonder why! Cancun has soft white sands, sparkling blue water, and lots of sunshine. What could be better after a bone chilling winter? Plus, don’t forget about the nightlife! Cancun is filled with crazy clubs, open air bars, and pool parties galore.

When you’re not partying, make sure to check out the ancient ruins in nearby Tulum and Chichén Itzá, or to go turtle spotting off Isla Mujeres. Adios!

2.) Road Tripping Route 66

Designed in the 1920s to be the first transcontinental, year round highway, Route 66 is easily nicknamed the Main Street of America. The iconic 2,400-mile road connects Chicago with Los Angeles, spanning Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California.

In terms of friend trips, road tripping Route 66 is not only a great way to see a large portion of the United States, but it’s also an awesome way to deepen your friendship. Get ready for lots of heart to heart talks during all those miles on the road. Don’t forget to stop at the retro motels, classic diners, and quirky roadside attractions that litter this iconic highway!

3.) Backpacking Europe’s Major Cities

Europe is the ideal spot to go backpacking with your buddies. Nothing else quite says frienassaince like crashing in cheap hostels and carrying all your worldly belongings on your back!

Start city hopping in London, to see Big Ben and the Tower of London, before taking the Chunnel to nearby Paris, where you’ll catch notables like the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower. From there, head up to Berlin for its affordability, World War II history, funky neighborhoods, and rocking nightlife. Finish up in Rome, where you can marvel at ancient monuments like the Coliseum and the Vatican. And there’s perhaps nothing quite like tossing a coin in the Trevi Fountain with your best buds in hopes you’ll return someday.

4.) Las Vegas Girls/Guys Weekend Debauchery

You don’t go to Las Vegas with a new acquaintance. You only go to Vegas with those friends who can seriously keep a secret or two. No other city does a girls’ or guys’ weekend away quite like Vegas.

Get ready for a total sensory overload, between cruising the Strip, checking out the dancing waters of the Bellagio Fountains, popping into a casino or two for a round of blackjack, or heading to a show on the town. Toss in its Venice themed shopping areas to celebrity chef restaurants, and Sin City will keep your crew entertained around the clock.

5.) Walking an Ancient Pilgrimage Trail

Is Vegas not really your scene? If you’d rather go the quieter, more spiritual route, why not head out on an ancient pilgrimage trail! For those meaningful friendships, covering an ancient trail can provide both a challenge and chance to see a part of the world in depth. Friends can also motivate each other to keep going when the going gets tough.

One of the best such treks to hike together is the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. Believed to be the work of the Incas to prepare visitors to enter the sacred site of Machu Picchu, the trail covers roughly 27 miles in Peru. If you want an even longer hike, head to Spain for the Camino de Santiago. Known as the way of Saint James, the walking pilgrimage features a number of routes with the most popular measuring in at 485 miles from France through northern Spain.
