Make sure you hold on to your MetroCard (the piece of plastic you get after you’ve given money to the vending machine or teller), if you don’t, you’ll have to pay an extra $1 fee for every new MetroCard you purchase. Citi Bike: Traveling solo? Or just trying to squeeze exercise in where you can during a busy vacation? Citi Bike may be the best fit for you. Much like the MTA pricing set-up, Citi Bike offers a 24-hour pass as well as a 7-day pass. Ride-sharing apps: Have your ride come to you! You’re on vacation after all. There are tons of ride-sharing apps out there that can be downloaded for free like Lyft or Uber. If you don’t want to be held down to a contract, this may be the best option for you. You can pay per ride as well as leave a tip without ever having to take your wallet out. Rent a car: If you don’t like relying on other people and love your privacy, you might want to rent a car. If you do so when you book your flight, you can save a little more money. You can go to that fun party in Brooklyn, you know, the one that’s in a desolate area because it’s cool, and not have to worry about getting to a train or hailing a cab because you’ve got your rent-a car.
