CheapOair: Was this photo planned?
Matt Long: No, not really, I was walking through the Siq, the entranceway to Petra, and took a lot of photos along the way. I wanted to include people in it to show the incredible scale of the canyon.

C: How long did it take to get this picture?
ML: Not long, because it’s such a popular tourist site I had to shoot fast, especially for this photo. I want some people, but not a tour group and had to wait for the right moment.

C: Was the photo taken with a camera or a cell phone? If so, which?
ML: DSLR, I use a Nikon D5100 with a Tamron 18-270mm lens.

C: The obligatory Instagram question, was there a filter put on it?
ML: Just a slight one using Snapseed to lighten it up a bit.

C: What inspired you to take this picture?
ML: I love Petra and since it was my second visit I knew there were some shots in particular I wanted to set up. I think the Siq is one of the most impressive aspects to any visit and yet doesn’t get as much attention as The Treasury. By showcasing its beauty I want others to realize just how massive the ancient city of Petra really is.
