The issue has nothing to do with the look of the lake or even the smell of it. The problem lies within the body of water’s official name… Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg. Yeah, good luck pronouncing that monstrous collection of vowels and consonants on the first attempt. It seems that the residents have such a hard time pronouncing the 13-syllable lake’s name properly, that they have opted to just call it simply Lake Webster. Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg is the longest name for a locale in the United States. It is the 6th longest in the world. The 49-character name (the picture above was actually abbreviated by four-letters) has the letter “g” in it 17 times! You would clean up nicely if you picked the 7th letter of the alphabet while playing Wheel of Fortune with this title. That is in fact the most times a letter in the alphabet appears in one word. The name also features the letter “a” an astonishing 10 times (excluding the “a” in “lake”), which is also more than any word in the English language. So what does the name translate to exactly?
