Odd Attractions: Carhenge in Alliance, Nebraska CheapOair Staff November 29, 2009 general They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I guess that was what Jim Reinders was thinking when he constructed a replica of England’s Stonehenge in the city of Alliance, Nebraska. Instead of using actual stones like the original, Reinders decided to construct this odd tourist attraction with a collection of vintage American made automobiles spray painted gray. Open in June 1987, Carhenge was created by Reinders in memorial to his late father. It consists of 38 automobiles formed in a circle at 95 feet in diameter. This crazy car collection even has its own visitor’s center and made the list of the "1,000 Things to See Before You Die" list in 2007!
