Have you been thinking of visiting Peru? Now may be the best time to start planning your trip. That’s because the country’s tourism is suffering in light of easily its most popular attraction Machu Picchu being shut down to foot traffic last month.

Flights and hotel prices have been lowered by up to 50 percent in order to bring in much needed foot traffic. Peru tourism is hoping people will flock to the Incan city of Cuzco instead for the time being.

The promotion will be available first domestically and then offered to international travelers.

In late January heavy rains caused massive flooding and landslides, which subsequently destroyed part of the area’s sole rail line. About 4,000 tourists were stuck at the village for almost a week due to the only train being unavailable.
