No AC in AC causes thousands of gamblers out of boardwalk casinos

Thousands of gamblers were forced out onto the hot Atlantic City streets and boardwalk due to a broken air conditioner Friday that forced both Trump Plaza Hotel Casino and Caesars Atlantic City to close their doors.

While Trump is now back in business, the slot machines and roulette tables continue to be unavailable at Caesars with no current plans to reopen. The two casinos decided to end the gambling when both buildings got too hot and worried about guests’ safety.

Tom Hickey, a spokesman for Trump Entertainment Resorts, told the Associated Press that the 906-room hotel would transfer guests to their other properties in Atlantic City.

This could not come at a worse time for Atlantic City as all 11 casinos struggle financially in a gloomy economic environment.  Plus competition from casinos in nearby Pennsylvania and Connecticut have taken away some of AC’s core audience.
