Spanish air traffic controllers are polling on whether to stage a strike in protest over what they call extreme work hours. According to the controllers’ union, its 2,300 members are voting Tuesday but a date for a strike would be decided later on.

The stoppage could come in August, the busiest month for travel in Spain, one of Europe’s top summer vacation destinations. USCA says the strike has been planned to protest the latest government ruling outlining changes in working and rest hours.

The union states the changes force several controllers to work up to 28 days a month. Jose Blanco, Development Minister, said the rulings improved working conditions and the planned strike “lacked justification.”
