Man survives fall from Grand Canyon

An 18-year-old French tourist fell 75 feet from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon Thursday afternoon and lived to see another day.

Park rangers spotted the man near Mather Point, about 75 feet below the rim, conscious but in need of medical assistance.

According to eyewitnesses, the man had lost his balance while snapping pictures near the edge of the rim.

Park rangers rappelled down to save the man and checked for any serious or life threatening injuries.

He was immediately lifted by a helicopter from the canyon in a stretcher and rushed to Flagstaff Medical Center for further evaluations.

The young man reportedly suffered ankle, neck and wrist injuries.
