Beginning February 19, Delta Air Lines will begin offering flights between Tampa International Airport and Cancun, Mexico.

Delta will become the sixth carrier to attempt a successful Tampa-Cancun route since the 1980s.

Previously JetBlue flew between the two cities in 2008 and 2009, but when swine flu broke out and demand for travel to Mexico dropped, the low-cost airline ended the service.

When Hurricane Wilma destroyed many Cancun resorts in 2005, Spirit Airlines backed out of any flights to the popular party city.  AirTran received the rights to fly the route but have yet to offer service.
