First flight arrives at new Dubai airport


 

 

Dubai's shiny new World Central-Al Maktoum International Airport, which aims to become the world's busiest, will now serve planes operating regularly scheduled flights.

 

The Associated Press reports, "Cargo flight operator Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings says a twice-weekly Boeing
747-400 freighter service it operates for customer Panalpina Group
began operating at Dubai World Central-Al Maktoum International last
week."

 

This is the first scheduled cargo airline to fly out of the airport since it opened in June.  Future plans for the airport include give runways that will handle up to 160 million customers and 12 million tons of freight yearly. Passenger flights are expected to start by theend of this year.
