Korean Air patiently awaits their A380 order

Korean Air revealed more information Thursday about their A380 order, with the first superjumbo to arrive by May 2011.  The original due date was December 2010.

Currently Airbus is working hard on ten 400- and 450-seat A380s, with the final touches being placed on the planes.  After the first A380 arrives this coming May, orders two through four will show up between June and August, the fifth by the end of 2011 and the remainder between 2012 and 2014.

The A380s ordered by Korean Air are configured with 400- and 450-seats, which is less seats than the A380s ordered by Lufthansa and Qantas. Korean Air defends the decision by saying they will "maximize cabin space", which will make for a roomier passenger experience.

Korean Air stated that A380 will initially be used for short-haul routes in order to allow more passengers to experience the new plane. Then starting August 2011, it will be used for long-haul flights to the US and Europe out of Asia.
