Emirates sees quadrupled profit in first half

Emirates announced that its first-half profit more than quadrupled as passenger numbers and cargo handling increased.

Net income in the six months up to September 30th increased to 3.4
billion dirhams ($925.7 million) from 752 million dirhams the year
prior, the Dubai state-owned carrier announced today in a statement.

Revenue increased by 35 percent to 26.4 dirhams. Ranked 24th by traffic among international airlines as recently as 2000,
the airline was put on par with Sabena SA, the Belgian carrier that
folded a year later.

Emirates has increased traffic six-fold since then,
overtaking Cologne, Germany-based Deutsche Lufthansa AG’s main brand
last year. Emirates is currently the largest airline on international
flights.
