In 2011 the Ukraine plans to open the Chernobyl area to tourists. The new tourist attraction will provide visitors with a better understanding of the world’s most detrimental nuclear disaster.

Starting next year, the Ukraine plans to open up the sealed zone around the Chernobyl reactor to visitors who have the desire to learn more about the horror that occurred almost a quarter of a century ago, the Emergency Situations Ministry said Monday.

On April 26, 1986, Chernobyl’s reactor No. 4 exploded spreading radiation over a large part of Europe.  Hundreds of thousands of people were resettled from areas contaminated with radiation. Related health problems still persist.
