As we say goodbye to 2010 and hello to 2011, those with the heart to travel or Christmas gifts to do so might want to consider spending their New Year's celebration abroad. What better way to bring in a new year than celebrating in a new city. Whether you are traveling far or staying somewhat local for your celebrations; you might face scenarios that make planning somewhat difficult.

Finding a Location

With so many cosmopolitan cities in the world such as New York, London and Paris, where is the perfect place to ring in the New Year? Perhaps you're looking for a non-traditional crazy celebration and are opting for a tropical surrender to a warm beach in Costa Rica. Be aware that flights for this time of the year are at peak costs; it might be better to plan ahead. You may want to start considering locations for New Year 2012.

Finding Things to do

Now that you're in your awesome city abroad; there are an array of activities to indulge in. Often, New Year travelers stay for a limited amount of time; often rushing back to work by the third day of the year. Big cities often create party packages which might include transportation, club admission, food and even drinks. Look out for these packages for great New Year deals. Sightseeing and being in a new city might already be the fun in itself for some travelers.

Homesickness

Some travelers are lucky to bring a companion or the entire family abroad for their New Year travels. Others may not be, or are currently abroad on a trip already. The holiday season brings nostalgic feelings of wanting to be with family, which is difficult if they are not close by or visiting. Make an effort to have a special video call, or send them a package from abroad. Reflect on the happiness of being able to travel and having a family; wherever they might be if you feel homesick this New Year.

Dealing with Delays

As any other holiday would, the last day of the year means an expectation of massive travel delays. Throw in the threat of implement weather and it is a recipe for a disastrous start to a New Year. With so many travelers trying to get around the globe, expect travel delays or even cancellations. The key is to stay prepared, or even travel ahead of time to avoid these congestion’s.

Staying Safe Abroad: On any trip abroad, it is imperative to stay safe no matter where on earth you are. New Year's Eve may be a threat worldwide by terrorists or other organizations, but it is important to be aware of danger all around. There are often higher reports of crimes, robberies and mishaps on the last day of the year. Make sure to always stay with people and to be aware of your surroundings. Always know the laws abroad to ensure proper safety. Also be careful not to drink and drive; which is another huge threat around this time of the year.
