New York City was able to survive the 2009 tourism skid with a record-setting year in 2010.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg reported that 48.7 million people visited NY in 2010, beating the previous record of 47 million set in 2008.

The record comes one year after NYC saw a slide in 2009, where the numbers dipped to 45.6 million, the first year tourism numbers didn't rise since 2001.

According to the report, 2010 projection was 47.5 million.

Bloomberg stated in 2007 that he'd like there to be 50 million visitors to New York City by 2012.
