The FAA has granted final approval for a plan to dramatically expand Philadelphia International Airport over the next 15 years.

The planned overhaul includes the expansion of two existing runways, a brand new commuter terminal, and the construction of a fifth runway which will run along the Delaware River.

Officials say the plans are intended to reduce delays and handle expected growth over the next half century.

The ambitious project, at an airport already squeezed for space, will displace nearly seventy homes in the surrounding neighborhood. The homes are expected to be purchased by the city and demolished ahead of the expansion.

The enormous project, which comes with an estimated $5.2 billion price tag, is expected to be finished in 2025.
