Friday, Alaska Airlines celebrated their first direct flight from Bellingham International Airport in Washington to Honolulu, Hawaii.

The move, which was announced last August that the direct flights would be taking place,  was commorated on behalf of the airline with tons of souvenirs for the passengers.  They handed out towels, bags, T-shirts, as well as fruit platters.  The plane was even honored with a Hawaiian Kahu blessing before it departed.

The route seems to be more convenient for travelers than making the trip to Vancouver or down to Seattle and flying to Hawaii.  One traveler was quoted as saying “it’s much more convenient than taking the shuttle down to Seattle, getting a layover and then landing in Hawaii.”
