A tourism fair taking place this week in central Madrid will feature a truly unique hotel, one whose owner freely admits is rubbish.

German sculptor H.A. Shult used 12 tons of recycled garbage to create the temporary hotel in Madrid’s Callao Square in an attempt to draw attention to the amount of pollution plaguing European beaches.

The hotel features five double rooms and is fully booked through its brief four-night run.

Shult hopes his peculiar creation will help people realize the burden each one of us places on the planet.

“I show the world as a hotel, and this world we only have rented and we have to realize that we in this time fill up the whole world with garbage," he said.
