The first leg of the proposed rail would link Tampa and Orlando

As the debate over a proposed high-speed rail project that would link Orlando’s attractions with the city of Tampa heats up, supporters of the plan say they will hold a rally Wednesday in Orlando.

Construction of the rail is currently opposed by Florida Governor Rick Scott. He says he doesn’t want taxpayers to foot the bill for overruns on the cost of building and operating the high-speed line.

Supporters of the plan are working to create an authority involving leaders in Orlando and Tampa to oversee the $2.4 billion of federal money already pledged to the construction. They have until Friday to come up with a plan.
