Dubai International was the world's fourth-busiest airport in 2010

Annual traffic results for 2010 showed Dubai International Airport squeaking past Frankfurt Airport as the world’s fourth-busiest hub for international traffic.

Dubai serves as the base of operations for Emirates Airline, the world’s largest international airline by capacity while Frankfurt is home to Lufthansa, the world’s second largest international carrier. Dubai beat out Frankfurt by about 7,000 passengers on the year.

Dubai’s traffic growth is being spearheaded by Emirates, as the airline continues to add to its fleet at the rate of at least one wide-body aircraft per month.

The good news continued into the New Year for Dubai International as January traffic rose to over 4.25 million, a 10 percent increase compared to January 2010.
