Spirit Airlines will add two international destinations in June

Budget carrier Spirit Airlines will extend its reach into the international market this summer, adding two destinations south of the border.

The first new route will allow passengers to fly from Spirit’s Fort Lauderdale hub to Toluca International Airport near Mexico City starting June 3.

In a press release, Spirit said Toluca airport, which is about 25 miles from central Mexico City, “provides customers easy access and serves as a convenient alternate to Mexico City International Airport.” Spirit will fly to Mexico City twice weekly, offering flights every Tuesday and Friday.

Starting June 13, Spirit customers can also fly from Fort Lauderdale to San Salvador, El Salvador three times per week. Both of the new routes are pending government approval.
