Facebook Facebook, Twitter and text messages will soon become just some of the ways in which residents of Mexico City will receive breaking news and updates by the government of Mexico City in the event it is hit with an earthquake.

According to an AP report, the mayor of Mexico City, Marcelo Ebrard, is looking to implement the system by September 19th, which just so happens to be the 26-year anniversary of the devastating 8.1 quake that killed roughly 10,000 people.

Early warning systems are in place in Mexico City, however locals have complained it does not always work and is not loud enough in some areas.

So something as simple as a tweet could be a major life saver going forward and most likely will become the norm among other destinations prone to natural disasters.
