Istanbul says it is ready to host the 2020 Summer Olympics

 

It didn’t take long for the international community to move on from the news that Pyeongchang, South Korea will host the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.

 

Today Istanbul, Turkey and Madrid, Spain made public their intentions to place bids on hosting the 2020 Summer Olympics.

 

The vying cities join Rome, Italy which declared its candidacy earlier this year. It has been speculated that Tokyo, Japan will announce its bid as early as next week.

 

The deadline for cities to bid on the 2020 Games is July 29. An official list of candidate cities will be released by the International Olympic Committee on September 1 and the host city will be announced in 2013.
