Visitors to Washington D.C. will soon have a new stop on their itinerary. Workers in the nation’s capital are putting finishing touches on the $120 million Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial.

The historic memorial (the first on the National Mall  to honor an African American) will open to the public on August 22. The memorial will officially be dedicated on August 28 which marks the 48th anniversary of the March on Washington and MLK’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech.

The dedication is shaping up to be a star-studded affair with Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Berry Gordy, Jr., George Lucas, Jamie Foxx and Clarence Avant serving as celebrity co-chairs.

Franklin will also perform a song at the event with President Barack Obama scheduled to make a few remarks.

The Martin Luther King Memorial will be located adjacent to the FDR Memorial between the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials.
