The Native Restaurant’s Curry Goat

No travel destination is complete without getting your foodie fix, no matter where you are. Jamaica’s Montego Bay is surprisingly diverse when it comes to its culinary options. Her are a few to try:

Houseboat Grill: This is a converted houseboat which is considered one of the finest in terms of cuisine. Indulge your seafood fantasies with items such as spicy conch fritters, and lobster, for which it is well known. The restaurant is moored on the calm waters of the Montego Bay Marine Park Fish Sanctuary. Internationally-renowned chef Rich Nurse leads a team of skilled culinary creators.

The Native Restaurant: You can easily dine outside in the open area and its large sheltered terrace. It has been voted as one of the best places to learn about Jamaican cuisine by Lonely Planet editors. There’s a ‘Boonoonoonoos’ with local seafood options and funky flavored options like “Coconut encrusted chicken with cinnamon banana.”

Ma Lou’s: This is a cozier environment and is a small place tucked away in the Coral Cliff Casino. Owned by Miss Lou, a Jamaican of Chinese origin, it features culinary influences from all over the world including seafood, lobster and meat. It seats only 25 people, so reservations are recommended.

Town House by the Sea: A good place for snail lovers (Jamaican escargot) and other rich fare, this fine dining establishment has earned the reputation of being one of the finest places for foodies. According to Lonely Planet, the smoked marlin is one of the island’s finest.

Nyam ‘N’ Jam: The catchy name should give you a clue that this is a fun place to visit and dine, and this has real Jamaican fare including authentic chicken foot soup and Jerk chicken. Considered a local favorite, it is a place for the adventurous palette.
