Solar panels will be installed on up to 60 acres at O’Hare

Passengers arriving on board flights to Chicago will be doing so just a little greener in the near future. Both of Chicago’s main commercial airports have announced green initiatives this week at the Airports Going Green conference in the Windy City.

According to officials, up to 60 acres of solar panels will soon be installed at O’Hare International Airport with additional plans to build an on-site service station that will sell alternative fuels for commercial and personal vehicles.

Meanwhile, over at Midway Airport a new composting program will recycle waste from the hub’s 13 restaurants.

Construction at O’Hare is expected to begin about a year from now while the composting program at Midway should get off the ground rather quickly.
