The San Francisco MoMA will soon see a huge expansion

Art fanatics boarding flights to San Francisco will soon need to devote more time to exploring the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (MoMA).

This week the art museum unveiled plans for a massive $480 million expansion project. The expansion will add 250,000 square feet to the museum and will allow for multiple points of entry for the first time.

Despite the sheer size of the project, everything is operating ahead of schedule. With ground set to break in 2013, the MoMA has already secured roughly 80 percent of the funding needed for the undertaking.

According to museum officials, the project should wrap up sometime in 2016.
