The downtown Atlanta skyline features an impressive architectural feat: the Georgia Dome.  More than likely, your kids aren’t incredibly interested in the amazing facts and features that make the Georgia Dome the largest cable-supported dome stadium in the world, but they are pretty impressive.  The 27-story tall, 1.6 million square-foot building consists of 8,300 tons of steel- more than the Eiffel Tower!  Possibly more interesting than the architectural facts, the dome is the regular home to the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons and Georgia State University. It has hosted two Super Bowls, the 1996 Olympics, and numerous men’s and women’s NCAA Final Four, including the forthcoming 2013 March Madness finals.  In addition to sporting events, the Georgia Dome hosts Monster Truck and Supercross events, as well as world class concerts from the industry’s biggest names.

If you have a sports fan on your hands, be sure to head to the dome for a tour offered every Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoon.  For less than the price of a luxury cup of coffee, you can explore the Dome.  On the tour you can visit numerous points of interest including the 200-feet-high Observation Deck, the highest seats in the dome, as well as numerous suites, lounges, luxury boxes throughout the arena, and even the Press Box.  Two tour highlights are in store: a visit to the Falcons locker room, recently added as part of the tour, and even a trip to the field where you can check out the FieldTurf to see how realistic the fake turf really is.
