Five Can’t-Miss European Brewery Tours CheapOair Staff July 27, 2011 Food & Drink, Interests Tour the Guinness storehouse in Dublin While Europe knows their wine, that's not the only alcohol they know. Europe really knows their beer too. This is evident by walking into almost any bar and seeing so many beers, whether bottled or on draft, that are from Europe. When traveling to Europe, you can expect to have your fair share of tasty brews. However, no trip to Europe is complete without doing a brewery tour, which takes guests behind the scenes of some of the world's best beer. Today we highlight a few of the best brewery tours in Europe. Guinness. We may be partial to Guinness since it's one of our favorite beers, but this isn't a tour you want to miss. Conveniently located in Dublin, this is at the top of many people's Europe bucket list, whether they are beer connoisseurs or not. The storehouse is a Dublin icon, dating back over 100 years. And of course it couldn't get top marks in our book unless it provided a free pint of Guinness at the conclusion of the tour. Monsteiner Bier. There aren't the same bells and whistles to Monsteiner Bier Brewery that you may find at many of Europe's other top breweries; however, there's no mistaking this as a premier view, as the Swiss Alps tower over the small brewery. As such, it gives off a very homey feel. Unlike many breweries, it offers a few different experiences, which include tastings, tours, and a combination of the two. Chimay. Chimay has one of the most storied histories of all the breweries in the world. First of all, the beer is brewed at a Trappist monastery. This isn't the first place you think about when it comes to brewing. They also have a very distinct beer glass, which sets them apart from many other breweries. You can't visit without taking one of their glasses home with you. This all makes for one of Europe's most fascinating beer tours. Heineken. Heineken has long been one of the world's most popular beers, as you'll find it in a large number of bars around the world. A tour of the Heineken Brewery in Amsterdam is often called an interactive experience, as it takes you through multiple floors and is very hands-on. Not to mention you get two beers with your admission. Pilsner Urquell. Pilsner Urquell is a little harder to find in bars and pubs around the world, but features one of the best brewery tours in Europe. The tour takes place in Pilsen, just outside of Prague. Pilsner Urquell features a long history, dating back to the 1800s, which guests will notice as they walk by old beer barrels that date back to the mid-1800s. Make sure to have warm clothes on, as the cellars get cold. Flickr: Lauren Souch
