As a student traveler, after booking your flights, the next thing you should do is look into accommodation for the duration of your stay.  Generally, I would recommend students find places to stay on the South side of the Liffey, which is the river that cuts through the center of Dublin. Though you will likely find the cheapest options on the North side, the South side is much safer and closer to the things you will want to see.  It may also be wise to pay attention to postal codes.  Even numbers are on the South side, and odds on the North.  The county of Dublin is huge, and extends to all of the suburbs, but the city center is very small, so it is wise to pay attention to maps when booking your stay to make sure the Dublin you’re visiting is the actual Dublin you intend to see.  Here are some recommendations for accommodation in Dublin.  

Barnacles Hostel 

 

Barnacles is located in the heart of Temple Bar, the central area to visit for most tourists visiting Dublin.  Though I’ve never been outside, the bright outside deco promises for a vibrant experience inside.  The location of this hostel makes it very attractive.  It is one of the safest areas in Dublin and will be full of fellow travelers.  There’s no shortage of things to do just steps from your doorway.  A night’s stay here starts at €12 per person, but check out their website for more information on booking. 

 

Jury’s Inn Christchurch 

 

If you’ve got more wiggle room financially, Jury’s Inn Christchurch (there’s more than one!) is also centrally located with a bit more comfort.  My parents stayed here when they visited me, where they actually had a view of my front door! Go figure!  But more importantly, is the gorgeous view of Christchurch Cathedral.  The rooms were large and comfortable, and were very similar to what you would find a mid to upper price ranged hotel in the U.S. This Jury’s Inn is central to most tourist hot spots but is located on an extension of Dame Street, providing for slightly more peace and quiet and privacy from the crowds.   A room at this hotel will run you upwards of €100 a night, but you will get what you’ve paid for. 

 

The Arlington Hotel 

 

I walk past this hotel nearly every day and seem to always see happy people near the exit.  It’s located on Dame Street and is much older and more quaint than something like the Jury’s Inn.  Though I have not been inside nor do I know anyone who has stayed at the hotel, I always see visitors coming in and out on a daily basis, giving me the impression they must be doing something right! The reason The Arlington Hotel jumps out at me is because they have a dinner performance every evening included with a three course meal, in which diners can enjoy live Irish music and step dancing.
