One of the prettiest cities in the Pacific Northwest, Vancouver is a place that loves to celebrate theater, film, the arts, and, not surprisingly given its location and natural beauty, conservation. Surrounded by water on three sides, the Vancouver metropolitan area teems with cultural diversity, with several upcoming popular annual events just around the corner. Support Conservation

The Artists for Conservation Festival is where nature and creativity merge. Now in its third year, this festival runs from September 28 to October 6, and features artwork by wildlife artists from around the world, workshops, exhibits, live demonstrations, First Nation cultural performances, music, and art for sale. A portion of art sale proceeds goes toward supporting conservation efforts. For folks who appreciate the world's animals, forests, and oceans, and wilder places, this is the place to be.  The event is held at the beautiful Grouse Mountain, which is just 15 minutes from downtown Vancouver.

 

Theater for All

Get ready for a unique cultural experience. The Vancouver Fringe Festival is a favorite among city residents, and is produced every year by the First Vancouver Theatrespace Society. Held September 5 through the 15, more than 100 different theater artists and companies combine their talents to produce about 800 performances that attract about 30,000 attendees. Founded in 1983, the First Vancouver Theatrespace Society  was formed to make theater more accessible to everyone. Over the years, its mission has grown, and now today, the popular Bring Your Own Venue category at the "Fringe" allows artists to stage their own original plays and skits, giving up-and-coming talents a chance to showcase their work. The event kicks off at Granville Island and concludes with an awards night.

 

For Cinema Lovers

If the silver screen is more your speed, the Vancouver International Film Festival is among the largest film festivals in North America, showing more than 340 films screened from approximately 70 countries. The film festival runs from September 26 through October 11, and will feature a range of independent films from accomplished filmmakers to newcomers, from documentaries to comedies. Two hundred of this year's films are full feature-length. The festival will take place at seven theaters with nine screens, including the Vancity Theatre and other theaters throughout the city.
