One of the most entertaining and coolest places in New York City lies in Williamsburg, the very popular section of Brooklyn located just off the first stop of the L train on Metropolitan Ave.  Nitehawk Cinema offers customers a spectacular viewing experience.  The unique design of light patterns on the building is both eye catching and enticing.  Visitors can order food and drinks, delivered right to their seats in the cinema just before the films begin.  The bar downstairs welcomes customers of the cinema and is open to the public as well, offering an intimate and enjoyable social setting.

Nitehawk shows cult classics, indie rarities, and newly released films, depending on the day and time of course.  There are only three theatres, varying greatly in size and available to rent for private parties.  Nitehawk hosts a variety of entertaining nights and events, including theme nights, live accompaniment for film screenings, and game nights.  Some of the coolest features of the cinema are the shorts shown before each film screening, made by local filmmakers and produced for Nitehawk.   

After you’ve had a drink downstairs, head up to the second level to purchase your tickets and take your seats.  Once seated, menus and waiters greet you, and you can fill out your order on a small card, which they then pick up swiftly and serve food during intervals in the short screening prior to the feature film.   Tickets are actually the same price or cheaper than seeing a film at a regular movie theatre these days, running at $11 for adults.  Visit the website for film schedules, special events, and ticket purchases.  If you’re in New York and looking for something to do you won’t find in the guide books, this is a one of a kind, affordable, interesting activity, and perfectly exemplifies the spirit of New York’s ability to infuse extra creativity in everything it does.  I would recommend Nitehawk for a date or for even groups as the seats are clustered into pairs with a small table in between viewers.
