Welcome to one of the poshest, yet not-so-touristy neighborhoods in;New York City. Visitors may spend a lot of their time in Midtown and Downtown Manhattan and often forget to head Uptown to see true reflections of New Yorkers. The UES is one of the most affluent neighborhoods with a rich European influence.

You may not have known that the UES is home to “Museum Mile” or “Millionaires Row”. This stretch across 5th Avenue alongside Central Park is not only home to prestigious and glamorous looking buildings, but also many famous museums, like The Met. While many visit The Met (There is hardly a low season for that place!), take a trip to the Guggenheim for a look at avant-garde modern art. Not only is the collection impressive, but the iconic look of the building’s foundation and how the museum is structured inside is just too cool. Tip: Pay what you wish on Sa 5:45PM-7:45PM, but get there early as line’s will go for street blocks!

You’ve seen it in Spiderman as the backdrop of one of the famous scenes in the film, but you should get up close and personal with the Roosevelt Island Tramway. Connecting Roosevelt Island to Manhattan; the tramway is used by commuters, but is enjoyed by tourists. The view above the water to see the skyline and the next door Queensboro Bridge is a priceless experience only costing $2.25 to get across!

The Upper East Side was once known as “Germantown” when German immigrants in the early 20th century and established bakeries, delicatessens and restaurants. While the modern day UES is now home to high rise apartments, a slice of German influence remains. If you’ve got cravings for bratwurst, sauerkraut or German craft beer, look no further than The Heidelberg Restaurant. You can get beer’s the size of your arm served by barmaids dressed in typical German attire. There is even a traditional beer garden that makes you feel like celebrating Oktoberfest all year ’round.

At what UES bar can you get a beer served with a free burger? Take a hike up to the edge of the UES to Merrion Square where you can do exactly this. (And a basket of wings with a pitcher!) This simple pub is a place for locals to hang, whether they’re enjoying grub on a regular Saturday night or watching Sports events. We also love their happy hour which gives us drinks for under $10, and sometimes even $5! The UES may be an expensive neighborhood, but Merrion Square is just the right place for any budget.

While you might have been able to score cheap tickets to New York City, you’ll spend a pretty penny at The Carlyle. It will be worth every penny to stay at this classic 5-star hotel. Guestrooms are fit for a King/Queen with elegant sheets, toiletries and impeccable service. It truly makes you feel like you’re one of the Gossip Girls; a true Upper East Sider.
