Do You Need a Visa to Visit Taiwan? Photo credit; Ken_Mayer
If you are planning to travel to Taiwan, you will definitely
need a valid passport, but will you need a visa?

Current entry and exit requirements for visiting the
Republic of China (Taiwan) include possession of a valid passport and confirmed
return or onward air ticket. All visitors can be denied entry without a return
ticket already purchased, so you will need to buy your cheap tickets home
before your arrival.

As U.S. passport holders, visitors can currently enter
Taiwan without a visa for up to 90
days. This hassle free entry is valid only for passports with at least 90 days
left before expiration, and no extensions will be granted once in Taiwan. For a
more flexible visit, or for visits longer than 90 days, consider applying for a
Taiwan visa before your arrival in Taiwan. Applications can be submitted online
at the Taipei Economic
and Cultural Representative Office website
.  Current rates start at $164.00 for regular
processing.

To complete the Taiwan visa application, you will need to
know your personal applicant information (such as nationality, name, date of
birth, occupation, address, etc…), valid passport details, purpose of travel
and proposed arrival/departure dates, and details of a contact in Taiwan. After
online submission, applicants should submit required documents (if requested)
with visa application photos within 30 days for approval. Taiwan visas will be
granted for visits totaling less than 6 months per calendar year.

TECO (Taipei Economic and Cultural Office) also has offices
in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Honolulu, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles,
Miami, New York, San Francisco, and Seattle for ease of use. If you are close
to one of these cities, you can visit the office directly for visa application
and processing.

Once in Taiwan, questions regarding passports and visas
should be directed to the American Institutes in Taiwan. There are two
locations, one in Taipei and one in Kaohsiung.
