New York’s Museum of Natural History Amy Wiener October 12, 2013 Interests, New York The American Museum of Natural History in New York City is a wonderful and affordable experience for travelers of all ages. The historic building is located right next to Central Park on the Upper West Side, in a beautiful part of the city best seen during the day. The Museum was made especially popular by the film, Night at the Museum, and fans will recognize the museum right away by its large statue of Teddy Roosevelt on horseback at the front entrance. Visitors can see dioramas of animal and plant life from around the world, as well as historic artifacts documenting the progression of mankind through tribal life in various parts of the world. The Ocean Life section is the most visually stimulating, with a life size blue whale suspended above visitors head, and more beautiful diorama’s of sea life around the perimeter. Another special attraction is the Hayden Planetarium and the Rose Center. Even if you opt out of the additional cost to visit the planetarium, the Rose center takes you on a cylindrical journey of the Universe’s history, from its inception to modern day, with descriptive and interesting displays as visitors progress up the winding path to the Planetarium. Admission is a recommended donation of $22 for adults, $17 for students, $27 for admission the Museum, Rose Center, and one additional IMAX or Space Show, and for $35 visitors can gain admission and access to all the presentations.
