The Johnny Cash Museum will open in Nashville, TN

Formal details were unveiled today for a planned museum in Nashville, Tennessee dedicated to the life and career of Johnny Cash. The iconic musician will be immortalized in the Music City in grand fashion.

The museum will feature 18,000 square feet of memorabilia space, plenty of interactive exhibits, and a 250-seat auditorium, according to a report from the Tennessean.

The project is expected to cost about $7 million, with most funding coming from Cash’s lifelong friend Bill Miller. Today’s announcement came just days before what would have been Cash’s 80th birthday.

Music fans wishing to honor the “Man in Black” should consider searching for cheap flights to Nashville this summer.

Though no official opening date has been set, all signs point to a summer 2012 launch.
