The Louvre Retains Title as World’s Most Visited Museum CheapOair Staff January 3, 2012 general The Louvre along the Seine River The Louvre Museum in Paris comfortably retained its title as the world’s most visited museum, drawing more than 8.8 million visitors in 2011. The 8.8 million visitors marked a five percent increase year-over-year, according to a report in the International Business Times. Museum officials attributed the rise to a significant increase in American visits. Scores of travelers arriving on flights to Paris from other foreign countries like Brazil, Italy, Australia, and China also provided a major boost. The Louvre Museum is home to some of the world’s most famous artworks, including the “Mona Lisa” by Leonardo da Vinci.
