How to Spend a Saturday in Dublin, Flickr: baranclesdublingalway

See the Best of the Best!

Saturday afternoons in Dublin are a great time to satisfy your appetite and get a little thrifty.  The Temple Bar Food Market held in Meeting House Square is truly the best of Dublin’s weekly events.  Every Saturday from 10:30 to 4 p.m., a few of Dublin’s restaurants send their chefs, farmers bring their freshest produce, and florists their prettiest bouquets for the best variety in one place.
You can do your weekly shopping and pick up fish, breads, cheeses, jams, jellies, and fresh juices, or grab some breakfast crepes or hot spiked cider.  Whatever you’re in the mood for, Saturdays in Temple Bar will have it.
There’s a book market as well in the same area in Temple Bar Square, with various vendors selling collections of classics as well as contemporary works.  You’ll also find movie and band posters, pins (or badges), movies and some random knickknacks here and there.   You can probably catch some street musicians on a Saturday.
The Designer Mart takes place in Cows Lane, which is another small section of Temple Bar.  This market is a bit more upscale and is a bit more expensive, but the vendors are highly skilled artisans, with items such as leather jewelry, glass bowls, handmade hats, soaps, and metal jewelry.   Cow’s Lane is also home to a coffee shop, wine bar, and quant but fantastically stocked book shop.
