BWI Airport breaks August 2001 traffic record

Decrease in passenger demand does not seem to be an issue at Baltimore/Washington International Airport, which recorded its busiest month in history in July.

BWI says 2.2 million commercial passengers flew through the airport, which broke the August 2001 record.

Southwest and Airtran were the main reasons why the record was set, as BWI’s No. 1 and No. 2 carriers.

Both carriers name BWI among their busiest airports, and each posted its highest-ever monthly passenger count in July at BWI.
