How big is too big? Airbus aircraft may soon carry 1,000 passengers

A new generation of Airbus A380s may have the capacity to seat an astounding 1,000 passengers each.

While the largest A380s currently in service can seat just under 500 people, the proposed A380-1000 could be the first commercial aircraft to crack the millennia mark in terms of passenger capacity, according to the Australian Business Traveler.

That number far surpasses the 840 passengers that could theoretically be carried on Airbus aircraft recently ordered by French airline Air Austral. Those enormous planes could be in the air by 2014.

No word yet on when the 1,000 seat superjumbos might hit the market but airlines like Lufthansa and Air France are reportedly already showing interest in them.
