Jirouemon Kimura on his 114th birthday

Jirouemon Kimura celebrated a very special birthday Tuesday in western Japan.

As his life’s calendar flipped into its 114th year, Kimura learned that he is now the world’s oldest man following the death of a 114 year old former rail worker in the United States last week.

During a press conference with reporters on his birthday, Kimura said he wished to live long enough to turn 120.

Over his long life, Kimura fathered seven children. He has 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

City officials reported that the old man was alert and upright while speaking with reporters for nearly an hour.
