Two New Airlines Want in at Toronto City Centre Airport CheapOair Staff May 21, 2010 general As a traveler that visits the great city of Toronto often, I always wondered why more flights were not flying into and out of the City Centre Airport. Well apparently I will have to wonder no more as news came out this week that two airlines are interested in utilizing the hub. The two airlines rumored to be landing soon at City Centre are Air Canada and Continental Airlines. Right now the only option, unless you fly with Porter, is to use Pearson International Airport which is about 17 miles away from the heart of Toronto as compared to City Centre which is less than two. When reached for comment about Air Canada reportedly filing a request to resume service at the City Centre, which would include 15 round trips a day to both Ottawa and Montreal and seven a day to Newark, New Jersey, the airline had nothing to add right now. Right now Porter Airlines has been the sole tenant since Jazz Air was evicted in 2006. Porter has been doing great business by luring more business class travelers to use them when they fly from Newark and Chicago due to the convenience of the airport's location. Source: Reuters
