Spirit is no stranger to controversial advertising

The creative team at Spirit Airlines is at it once again. The low-cost carrier, which has been no stranger to controversial advertising in recent years, has launched a $9 “Weiner Sale” in the wake of US House Representative Anthony Weiner’s recent fall from grace.

The deal, which the airline has eloquently dubbed as “too hard to resist,” is available to members of the airline’s $9 Fare Club on round-trip travel booked through June 8. The special fares are eligible for use on select travel dates in June and July.

The scandal was ripe for picking by Spirit’s advertising team. The Fort Lauderdale-based airline has made headlines a number of times in recent years for racy advertisements containing elements of innuendo and double entendres.
